A Closer Look
Leila Chirayath, Founder:Leila Chirayath Janah, Founder and CEO : Leila first developed the idea behind Samasource while working as a management consultant at Katzenbach Partners (now Booz & Co.), where her clients included global leaders in the outsourcing and telecom sectors and a number of prominent non-profits. Along with Professors Thomas Pogge and Aidan Hollis, she founded Incentives for Global Health and helped produce a plan for incentivizing the development of new drugs for neglected diseases. As an undergradudate, Leila authored background papers for the World Bank's Development Research Group and Ashoka on equity and social rights. Leila is a recipient of the Rainer Arnhold and TEDIndia Fellowships, and serves on the San Francisco board of the Social Enterprise Institute. She is a former Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Program on Global Justice and the Center for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at Australian National University. When she's not running Samasource, Leila blogs on Social Edge and tries to keep up with her Twitter account. She holds a B.A. from Harvard University.
Olana Hirsch Khan, COO, Kiva.org: Olana Hirsch Khan serves as Chief Operating Officer of Kiva Microfunds. Ms. Khan is responsible for scaling and managing Kiva.org's core operations. A 6-year Google veteran, While at Google, She oversaw the International Sales Professional Services team and developed deep expertise in scaling teams and operations in rapidly changing environments. Prior to Google, Ms. Khan worked at The Economist, Netscape and AOL. She co-founded OZ Ventures. She has extensive volunteer experience in Thailand, focused on developing educational forums around women's health and AIDS prevention. Ms. Khan graduated from the University of Michigan Honors Program with a B.A. degrees in Asian Economics and Psychology.
Lloyd Taylor, Technical Operations Expert, Google, LinkedIn: Lloyd Taylor an independent adviser, consultant, and investor who specializes in helping companies scale successfully. His professional work has included scaling LinkedIn's infrastructure to support it's rapid growth; developing, implementing and operating an infinitely scalable global physical infrastructure for Google's server farms; building out a worldwide performance measurement infrastructure for Keynote Systems; and developing one of the first managed hosting architectures while at Digex. His pro bono work includes funding and advising a select group of non-profits working on zero-dependency methods for ending poverty throughout the world.
Bill Trenchard, Former CEO, LiveOps: With over a dozen years of experience as an internet entrepreneur, Bill offers an expert perspective in his role as a board member. Previously, Bill was CEO of LiveOps from January 2004 until December 2006 and was co-founder and CEO of CallCast, a revolutionary call routing technology firm that merged with LiveOps in 2003. Prior to CallCast, Bill was a managing director at idealab!, where he served portfolio companies in capacities ranging from a board member to interim CEO. Bill also founded and served as CEO of Jump Networks, Inc., which was acquired by Microsoft Corporation in April 1999. Bill has a Bachelor of Arts degree in science and technology studies from Cornell University.
Bill Unger, Partner Emeritus, Mayfield Fund: Bill Unger joined Mayfield in 1984. Bill was an early investor in such industry leaders as Sandisk, Silicon Architects, Calico Commerce, nChip, Newport Communications, Simplex Solutions, Verplex Design Systems, and Excess Bandwidth Corporation. He continues to advise privately held companies. Bill has always dedicated time to philanthropic activities. Currently he serves as a board member of Samasource, CARE USA, The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, and is on the advisory boards of the Dean of Engineering of The University of California at Berkeley, the Dean of Engineering of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Environmental Entrepreneurs, the Global Philanthropy Forum, and the Entrepreneurs Foundation
