Sales Department - Sales Rockstar
Samasource is a social enterprise that connects women, youth, and refugees living in poverty to digital work. We are a small, dynamic team composed of Harvard, Stanford, and Dartmouth alums committed to changing the world. In just one year, we’ve found work for over 550 people and received funding and in-kind support from the Facebook Fund, the Rockefeller, Templeton, and Mitchell Kapor Foundations, and the Stanford Social Enterprise Challenge, as well as numerous awards.
Samasource is seeking a Sales Rockstar to close leads with medium-sized businesses and large US enterprises across a range of services, develop sales strategy, and build long-term relationships with our existing client base. This role will report directly to the CEO and may include substantial travel (up to 50%) within the US and Europe. Our Sales Rockstar will have access to a team of talented part-time salespeople, several interns, and a range of web-based and social media tools, as well as mentorship from our Advisory Board and Board of Directors. The successful candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment and self-motivated.
This is a newly crafted role in a high-performing startup. We expect the person who fills it to develop specific performance goals with the help of our CEO and existing sales and account management teams. We offer competitive compensation linked to performance, and benefits.
Successful candidates will have a strong background in IT, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), or enterprise software sales, and specific knowledge of one or more of the following verticals:
- Data processing / data entry
- Crowdsourced labor
- Captioning / transcription
- Web-based services
- Web Applications (including Facebook and iPhone applications)
- Software and application testing
Additional attributes of successful candidates include:
- Familiarity with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs or contacts with CSR executives
- Google AdWords, SEO, and SEM experience
- A degree from a leading university
- Strong commitment to building our organizational culture

Winter Internships
We are currently recruiting MBA and undergraduate interns to assist the leadership team in San Francisco, CA. Selected interns must be recent graduates or current students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, with a demonstrated interest in technology, business, or social enterprise. Candidates may choose one of the following focus areas, and will have some flexibility in designing projects with members of our staff:
- Sales
- Engineering (For particular requirements see this job posting)
- Marketing and advertising
- Service Partner relations

Kenyan Field Officer
The incumbent will act as a representative of Samasource to the numerous Service Partner projects in Kenya and will liaise with personnel from the head office in San Francisco, California. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Duties will include providing regular updates regarding the work programs instituted within our Service Partners, assisting with and setting up practices for SPs who need assistance, arranging meet-ups of SPs located in Nairobi to promote idea-sharing and collaboration, streamlining invoice and payment procedures where required, assisting with quality control standards where required.
In addition to support and liaison role to the SP described above, the Field Officer will also assist Samasource with it’s pilot project in Dadaab, Kenya by liaising with the implementing partners, and managing program training, and other matters relating to running successful pilot program within the Ifo and Dagahaley camps. Regular updates and recommendations regarding the pilot will crucial components in this capacity as well as a possibility of scheduled field trips to the camps in northern Kenya.
A third facet to this role will be to provide operational support for Samasource staff, fellows and interns and other personnel visiting Kenya. Samasource is expanding its reach in Kenya and personnel from the Head Office may make frequent visits. In this capacity there will be a requirement of general assistance to Samasource as a Field Officer, which may involve other tasks.
Qualifications:- Fluent in English and Swahili (any other language is appreciated.
- Fully conversant with computers and computer technology.
- Self-starter, able to solve problems.
- Familiar with the culture and customs of Nairobi, Kenya; able to navigate the local scene in a secure and confident manner.
- Work experience related to this position is appreciated.

Samasource Fellows
Samasource Fellows support the organization by working directly with Service Partners, located in six developing countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Our Fellows program offers a rare opportunity to learn about economic development first-hand by working with a startup social enterprise with a substantial field presence. Fellows will oversee the following activities:
- Recruiting and screening new Service Partners
- Conducting on-site training and capacity building
- Collecting video footage and photographs for use in marketing and communications
- Interviewing Service Partner employees and management to assess performance against social impact and quality assurance
- Supporting and liaising with Service Partner management
- Providing operational and logistical support to the Samasource management team from the field
All Fellows must be able to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. There are no fees to participate in the program, and Samasource assists Fellows with training and logistical support. A minimum commitment of 8 weeks of full-time availability is required to participate in the program.
