Samasource in Haiti
Samasource began the process of building a service provider in Haiti in 2009. Samasource founder Leila Chirayath Janah outlined the reasons for working in Haiti in an article for the Huffington Post:
Haitians live in a densely populated country (10 million people on an island smaller than Maryland), learn French and English at school, share a timezone with New York, and live a short, cheap flight away from Miami - this makes them great candidates for digital work. In a region where the chief economic activity is subsistence farming and 80% of the population lives in poverty, the type of work Samasource offers could make a dramatic impact.
But when the country was rocked by a massive earthquake on January 12th, 2010, all of us at Samasource feared that all those plans would be set back for months, if not years. Instead, it became clear that Samasource's work in Haiti would become an important part of the country's reconstruction, and we moved ahead with great urgency.
Today, Samasource has trained forty workers at 1000 Jobs/Haiti, our partner on the ground. This new center is located in Mirebalais, a small town about an hour's drive from Port-au-Prince. By choosing this location, Samasource hopes to give the many people who left the overcrowded city a reason to stay. Samasource workers now have employment and a growing set of technical skills. Most importantly, they have hope for the future.

Support Haiti
Our goal is to raise $5000 to support our service partner's rebuilding efforts.
By donating, you can help us maintain internet connectivity in Mirebalais. A donation of $250 allows you to sponsor a netbook which will be used to earn sustainable income.
